9/11 Ceremony of Remembrance 2023
(904) 825-0198Each year, the City of St. Augustine holds an Annual Ceremony of Remembrance, a community gathering to remember those who died in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. This year, the ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2023, at the St. Augustine Fire Department station No. 1 on Malaga Street.
The 15-minute ceremony will include a presentation of the colors by St. Augustine Fire and Police Departments and St. Johns County Fire and Rescue. St. Augustine Deputy Fire Chief Chris Pacetti and St. Johns County Sherriff Robert A. Hardwick will speak at the podium.
There will be a moment of silence at 8:45 a.m., timed to coincide with when the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in 2001. After the moment of silence, the St. Augustine Fire Department's historic 1900 fire bell will ring in four intervals of five rings each, a tradition called "Striking the Four 5's." It signifies the last alarm of a firefighter.
Admission: Free.
