Fiesta de Avilés 2016

St. Augustine's annual Fiesta de Avilés will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016, on Avilés Street, the oldest street in the nation's oldest city and the heart of its original art district.

The event had to be postponed due to the impact of Hurricane Matthew on the St. Augustine area. The original festival was scheduled over three days, but this rescheduled one-day event will be chock full of the same lively activities. including live music, dancing, art exhibits, and the traditional "running of the bulls" along Avilés Street.

There will be live music on the Avilés Street Stage from 12 to 6 p.m. First Coast Flamenco will perform, followed by local favorite Luis Mario and his Latin Jazz Band. 

The traditional Running of the Bulls begins at 3 p.m., with a kids race at 3 and the race for adults at 3:30. This event is a twist on the Spanish custom -- in St. Augustine, the people are chased by special guests in "bull" costumes in a sprint down Avilés Street. Everyone is invited to participate, and gift certificates are offered by the local merchants for the winners.

Photographer Rick McAllister will give a presentation entitled "Walking Across Spain on the Camino de Santiago." Rick recently walked the 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain to Santiago de Compostela -- a journey that took him seven weeks and included some of Spain's most beautiful scenic areas, from the Pyrenees through the wine country and finally to Galicia. He will share his experiences and his photography at Trinity Episcopal Church (215 St. George Street) beginning at 2 p.m.
