Lecture: Memory and Martyrdom Two Centuries after Menendez

With St. Augustine's 450th anniversary being celebrated on September 8, 2015, Flagler College plans to start off the month with a focus on St. Augustine history and position in the world 450 years ago and its effect on the present. The first lecture is on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at 10 a.m.

Visitors and guests are welcome to join the charismatic professor of theology Dr. Timothy Johnson as he delivers the first presentation on Florida history, entitled "If You Do Not Do This, Florida Will Be Lost: Memory and Martyrdom Two Centuries after Menendez."

Timothy Johnson—a senior Fulbright Scholar—holds a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. While his primary area of expertise is the history of Christian spirituality and theology, Dr. Johnson enjoys covering a wide scope of courses that touch upon contemporary theological thought, religion and film, and world religions.

The Flagler College Community Lecture Series began in 2007 to offer the St. Augustine community an opportunity to explore topics covering arts, religion, politics, culture, history, economics and more with experts on the Flagler College faculty. Lectures take place monthly, last approximately one hour, and are followed by a coffee and pastry reception
