"Snapshot St. Augustine" Photography Exhibit

The St. Johns Cultural Council presents photographer Kenneth M. Barrett Jr.'s exhibit on the history of St. Augustine from 1975 to 2015. The event's opening reception will be held on Tuesday, August 4th, 2015 from 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The exhibit will run through October 22, 2015, in the Rotunda Gallery of the St. Johns County Administration Building.

The photographs chosen for this exhibit cover a wide range of events and activities in St. Augustine. Barrett utilized black and white films, color slides, print film, and digital film in order to capture the passage of time in St. Augustine. The snapshot idea is a reference to Ansel Adams who remarked that the snapshot allows us to record the everyday events which surround us, and later these take on newer meaning.

Kenneth M. Barrett Jr. was raised in St. Augustine and graduated with a degree in photojournalism from the University of Florida. His writings have consisted of maritime-related activities, including the sailing story, "Standing Off the Bar," which focuses on the exploits of the fictional captain Ian Leather Payne. Barrett's photographs of St. Augustine have been featured in several galleries and have been published by the National Park Service, St. Augustine Historical Society, Pineapple Press, and the University of Florida Press. His work has most recently appeared in Walking St. Augustine by Elsbeth Gordon.

For Ken Barrett, this exhibit—just in time for St. Augustine's 450th celebration—represents his view of St. Augustine's history and ever-changing community.

When? Tuesday, August 4th, 2015 to Thursday, October 22, 2015. The Rotunda Gallery is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. every Monday through Friday. The opening reception on August 4th will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 9:00 a.m.

Where? The Exhibit will be on display in the Rotunda Gallery in the St. Johns County Administrative Building, which is located at 500 San Sebastian View.
