One of the best-known of Tennessee Williams' enduring and classic plays, Sweet Bird of Youth was written in 1959 This classic Tennessee Williams play will come to life on the stage of the Limelight Theatre from January 23 - February 15, 2015.

The play tells the story of Chance Wayne, a drifter from "the wrong side of the tracks," as he himself describes it, who falls in love with a young woman named Heavenly Finley. Heavenly's father is a wealthy and ruthless political boss with powerful connections who will not allow the marriage because of Chance's "unworthy" origins. He lures Chance away to Hollywood with the promise of a film career and sends his daughter away on a long tour of Europe.

The Limelight Theatre production is directed by Gary Cadwallader and stars Cory Billingsley as Chance Wayne and Beth Lambert as Alexandra Del Lago.

Originally directed by Elia Kazan and featuring Paul Newman, Geraldine Page, and Rip Torn, Sweet Bird of Youth was nominated for four Tony awards and ran for 375 performances. In 1962, Richard Brooks directed the movie version, with most of the same stars from the Broadway show.  And in 1975, the play was revived on Broadway with Christopher Walken in the lead role.

Admission: $25 for adults; $22 for seniors; $20 for students and military.

When? Sweet Bird of Youth will run from Jan. 22 - Feb. 15, 2015. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday - Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Where? The Limelight Theatre is located at 11 Old Mission Ave. in St. Augustine.
