Fort Menendez is a family attraction in St. Augustine, Florida. Visitors will receive a map and then set out to explore the new Spanish settlement which was built next to the Village of Seloy where the native Timucua Indians lived. This exciting interactive experience allows guests to participate in the rich history of the fort. Vacationers will meet a guide whose helpful knowledge of Fort Menendez can show you all the amazing antiques and sites of the fort. However, there are twists and turns along the way.
Around every corner of this unique museum visitors can encounter different characters of the past and can see and touch the old weapons, tools, and musical instruments of the fort's original residents and even make some of their own artifacts. Fort Menendez offers a voyage to the new world where guests can experience all the joy and excitement the first settlers felt when they arrived here 450 years ago.
General admission tours are $11.00 for adults, $8.00 for children age 3 to 18, and free for children 2 and under. Educational tours for students are also offered at the Fort Menendez at Old Florida Museum, where students will receive a history of the fort and can make items from the period to take home.
These tours are offered through three different themes; the first Spanish period in the Spanish/Fort Mose history in the Timucua Indian program, the first Spanish period in the Spanish/Fort Mose program, and the American territorial period in the Pioneer Program. Also, the students can uncover their own piece of the past in the Archeological Dig! Call Fort Menendez at Old Florida Museum in Saint Augustine, for more information.
