Matanzas State Forest has more than 4,600 acres and offers a large area of protected land where visitors may participate in numerous recreational activities. 

A multitude of wildlife can be spotted including songbirds, marsh birds, otters, deer, bald eagles, gopher tortoises, and wild hogs. A quarter of the land is also consumed with wetland and swamps.
