The Castillo de San Marcos, built 1672-1695, has long protected the city of St. Augustine. The Castillo has been used under Spanish, American and British forces and was made a National Monument in 1924. The Castillo de San Marcos grounds are open to the public. Historical tours of the interior of this National Park are available.
