Celebrate 450 Years of History!

St Augustine Florida - Castillo Cannon FiringThere is no place like St. Augustine, Florida in 2015.

2015 marks the 450th anniversary of the founding of St. Augustine, and the city plans to celebrate it in style. The city was founded on September 8, 1565, by Pedro Menendez de Aviles and the diverse group of settlers who sailed with him from Spain. This multicultural group formed the basis for this unique new community– the oldest European continuously-occupied settlement in the U.S.

Commemorative events take place throughout the year, from galas to street festivals to live entertainment of all kinds, culminating over the Labor Day weekend with fireworks, living history demonstrations, music and dance concerts, and a spectacular re-enactment of the original landing, a commemorative mass, and a celebratory procession on September 8, 2015.
