The St. Augustine premiere of the film, "Journey: 450 Years of the African American Experience," will take place at Lewis Auditorium on Monday, January 12, 2015, from 7 - 8 p.m. Presented by Mummy Cat Productions, in cooperation with WJXT Jacksonville, the City of St. Augustine's 450th Commemoration and Flagler College, this debut is free and open to the public. Beginning in February, 2015, the half-hour film will begin airing nationwide on major network-affiliated stations across the U.S. as part of Black History Month programming.

"Journey" tells the story of the pivotal role played by free Africans in the colonization of the New World, with historical accounts of the first African child to be baptized in the New World, African conquistadors, and the first Free Black Settlement of Fort Mose. This is history that is not often included in text books, and it is a story that needs to be told.

The documentary also explores the historic activities surrounding the Civil Rights movement in 1964, which led to a change in the politics and the course of the United States.

The January 12th screening is an opportunity for the St. Augustine community to preview the film before it begins airing on national TV in February.

"Journey" was produced by Lura Readle Scarpitti and her local production company, Mummy Cat Productions, as part of St. Augustine's 450th Commemoration. Commemoration events all year long lead up to the celebration in September 2015 of the city's 450th anniversary since its founding in 1565.

Admission is free and open to the public.

When? Monday, January 12, 2015, from 7 - 8 p.m.

Where? The Lewis Auditorium is located at 14 Granada St. in downtown St. Augustine.
