Peña-Peck House

Members of the Women's Exchange maintain and provide tours to the Peña-Peck House, at 143 St. George Street.

This historic home was built in 1750 of native coquina for the Royal Spanish Treasurer, Juan Estevan de Peña. Later it was home to two British-period governors, John Moultrie and Patrick Tonyn. The latter continued to conduct official business here after the Revolutionary War until 1785, making the Peña-Peck House the last official seat of the British government in North America, south of Canada.

The home was purchased in 1837 by Dr. Seth Peck, who had the house renovated and added the second story. The Peck family owned the home until 1931, when the last resident, Anna Gardner Burt, passed away and left the house to the City of St. Augustine. It is maintained and managed by the Women's Exchange of St. Augustine, which also operates a gift shop at the site. 

Women's Exchange members and volunteers conduct tours that cover the extensive history of the house, and showcase paintings by Felix de Crano, William Staples Down, and other local artists. These complimentary tours start every hour, from noon to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays through Saturdays, donations are welcome. Private groups can call to arrange for a private group tour. There is a fee for group tours.

The Peña-Peck House is located on St. George Street near the Cathedral West Courtyard. The house also offers several wedding packages and has a kitchen on-site for special events.
