"Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" at Flagler College

The Flagler College Theatre Arts Department presents the Tony-Award-winning play, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," over the last two weekends of February, 2015. Six performances, on the dates and times specified below, will take place at Flagler's Lewis Auditorium.

Written by Tom Stoppard, "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" is being presented by special permission of Samuel French, and is produced in conjunction with the St. Johns County Center for the Arts at St. Augustine High School.

"Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" is a modern classic that adds an existential twist to its behind-the-scenes look at Shakespeare's "Hamlet." The two protagonists find themselves in the middle of Hamlet's court in Denmark, but with no knowledge of how they got there, what they are supposed to do, or how to get out again, when they are told "the only exit is death."

This production is co-directed by Andrea Cook, Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Flagler College, and Michael Beaman, Performing Arts Chair at St. Augustine High School and a Flagler College alumnus.

Tom Stoppard's absurdist, tragicomic play has been highly acclaimed since it was first produced at the Edinburg Festival Fringe in 1966. It has been produced at the National Theatre in London and on Broadway, and was made into a film in 1990 with Gary Oldman and Tim Roth as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Admission: $15 for general admission; $5 for students with valid ID. Tickets go on sale online on February 16, 2015, and at the Lewis Auditorium box office Thursday and Friday during the weeks of performances from 2-5 p.m., as well as 1 hour prior to curtain.
